In the past, Krakow was the country’s capital and the home of kings. The Market Square is one of the largest medieval squares in Europe. Since 1978, The Old Town has been listed on the World Heredity List of Unesco. The city is the place where young Karol Wojtyla (later pope John Paul II) studied and worked as a priest and then as a bishop and an archbishop of Krakow.
